Overview
"Q2DM1" is the name of the first of a series of competative environments for the computer game "Quake2", released in 1996 by id Software. At the time "Quake2" was released real-time rendering technology on home computers wasn't advanced enough to display much environmental detail; As a result, many game developers chose to simplify the architectural detail in their simulated environments to maintain a high level of real-time player interaction.
These simplified competative environments, simulations of non-existant spaces, are intimately familiar to many game players of the era. And while the game that hosted these environments has long-since fallen out of favor with players, the spaces remain. Rather than resume competitive play as a means of resurecting these defunct virtual spaces, I intend to present them as candidates for a secondary use via a series of studies (in the form of digital prints and renderings).
